What is Reference Organiser [RO]?

Reference Organiser is a free site where you can manage Web pages of interest and your reference or books. It arose because I found I needed to keep my CV up-to-date and to keep track of the references I needed professionally. I work in the field of Human Embryology and IVF but Reference Organiser can be used by anyone in any field.
There are several excellent reference management systems which I am sure many scientists use. I however felt that a less complicated, universally available process may provide an alternative option. The site will be funded out of advertising and this means that it is universally available. The key aspects of being Internet based is that regardless of where you are and wherever you move to in your next job, RO will always be accessible.
What can RO provide?
In the first instance,Reference Organiser allows you to capture the web pages [the URL] in a social networking environment for later use. Where references are saved, this is called citation networking. While your Internet program allows you to do this on your local computer, only web-based citation networking allows this to happen on any computer. The URL can be tagged with keywords for future recovery. Each URL may then be emailed to colleagues or converted into a complete reference.

However if the reference is required by you for future citation, Reference Organiser allows you to add journal, book, chapter, conference abstracts and any other reference you may need. You can search for references others have entered and create links to those references thereby building a reference library. This library can be flagged with keywords and comments. References added by others can be identified by savable searches and added to your reference list. Reference Organiser is not meant to be a repository for all the references ever published. There are many organisations that allow you to search very widely. When you find one or more references in your Internet travels, Reference Organiser is meant to be a place you can park and save them. Chances are that if you use them, others may need them as well. Hyperlinks to the articles allow you to revisit them when required.

Publication lists can be created on any subject visable only to you. Individual references can be added to one or more publication lists. These lists can be accessed in a way that could be used as references in any document simply by cut and pasting it. For me, the lists can be referenced externally so by citing a list that points to Reference Organiser, you can allow others to review your list. For instance, look at a publication list on Vitrification. If the URL as been added to the reference, the browser can access the original article for review.
Shortly you will be able to create user groups to share selected references between members of a section or company, special user groups or other formats.
Create a Dynamic CV ?

Many of the references you may add to Reference Organiser some may be part of your CV. You can link these references to your reference pool and mark it as a CV reference. There are capabilities to create the main section of your CV and then display these CV items along with your references as your CV online. For example you can look at my CV by selecting on the link below. All the references have been added to one's own reference list.

My CV

One advantage of this approach is that you can send a hyperlink to your own CV by any means and at the same time continue to add new items as they arise. This way your CV is always current. Browsers can save it as a pdf file.
The current version is a working draft version. You are free to register and try to add a reference and attempt to create your CV.
